Wendy loves to use saturated colors on textured surfaces. She paints from direct observation, sketches on-site, and combines images from her photo references. She creates a sense of heightened reality and her themes include rainy nightscapes, reflections, light, and shadow. The addition of figures suggests a narrative element. Cycling through practice, and production modes is important for Wendy to develop new themes and processes. She is constantly searching for viewpoints that convey a deep sense of space and invite the viewer to linger over patterned surfaces.
Wendy has a background that includes textile design and children’s book illustrations. She studied at Parsons School of Design, The School of Visual Arts and The Art Students League in New York City, and earned a bachelors and masters degree in art education from Montclair State University and Antioch University, New Hampshire. She is a full-time art teacher in West Orange and maintains a studio practice in Verona, NJ. Her 2024 objective is to show her work at new venues and expand her network.

Artist Statement

I have always maintained an art making practice. After a series of moves over the past 10 years I am now settled with a studio in Verona, NJ. My goals for 2024 include working larger, showing and selling my paintings and prints at a variety of venues, and networking by volunteering with ProArts Jersey City.
