presented the Curator’s Choice Exhibition

Pro Arts Jersey City, in cooperation with Studio 371 sponsored by Stephanie Panepinto, presented the Curator’s Choice Exhibition , April 13th – 29th, 2012 located at Studio 371 – 371 Warren St. (corner of 1st St. & Warren) 4th Floor, Jersey City, NJ 07302.
The exhibit featured 7 artists selected by 6 professional curators from the metropolitan area during the one day portfolio review as part of a Pro Arts organized weekend of professional development for area artists. The reviewers were; Ann Aptaker (Independant Curator), Mary Birmingham (Curator of the Visual Arts Center of NJ), Dr. Virginia Fabbri Butera (Director, Theresa Maloney Art Gallery, College of St. Elizabeth), Sean Carroll ( Former Program Manager for Artist Residencies at Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) ), Evonne Davis (Director, Gallery Aferro Newark, NJ) , and Margaret O’Reilly (Curator of Fine Art, New Jersey State Museum in Trenton).
On Saturday, January 14th, 2012 Pro Arts Jersey City provided visual artists with the opportunity to discuss their portfolios with leading NJ/NY gallerists and curators in 20 minute, one-on-one review sessions. Each of the six (6) reviewers selected an outstanding portfolio and collectively agreed on one additional artist to be presented at a group gallery show entitled: “Curator’s Choice” – At Studio 371 Gallery. Meredith Lippman, ex-officio of Pro Arts, Mike Smith, Board Member, and Midori Yoshimoto, Ph.D, Advisory Board Member of Pro Arts and Director of the NJCU Galleries in Jersey City curated the work and organized of the exhibition.
The selected artists are: Sara Becktel, Laura Gravenstein, Marshall Jones, Vincent Salvati, Lynn Saville, Alonzo Smith and Debbie Teicholz.
