Jenna Geiger and Keith VanPelt
Co-founders and co-curators of Deep Space Gallery in Jersey City, NJ
Deep Space Gallery Founded in 2016, by curators Jenna Geiger and Keith VanPelt. The gallery hosts year-round solo and group exhibitions, featuring the work of emerging and mid-career ultra-contemporary artists, both local and international outsider and formally trained. Exhibitions focus primarily on painting, but also include fiber art, installation, sculpture and works on paper. Styles range from figuration to abstraction.
Jenna Geiger is the lead curator, co-founder and co-owner of Deep Space Gallery in Jersey City. She has curated monthly solo and group exhibitions since opening the gallery in 2016. She has also curated off-site exhibitions and installations at other galleries and art fairs. Geiger’s resume as a curator includes both national and international galleries, publications, and art fairs. Geiger’s curatorial roots grew from her academic background in Anthropology where her appreciation for the cultural importance of visual symbols was formalized. She is motivated by the power of art – to communicate key social values, to serve as a reservoir of visual artifacts, as a means by which a community understands itself and translates meaning across time and space, from generation to generation, and between individuals and societies at any given time. Emerging artists are central to her curation as they in particular express the urgency of “the right now” and help us all attend to the demands of the present moment.
Keith VanPelt is the founder, director and co-curator of Deep Space Gallery in Jersey City. His formal training and experience as a painter and stained glass artist informs his role as curator and gallery director. In Jersey City, Keith guest curated at the legendary 58 Gallery and organized art shows in other east coast cities including New York and Raleigh. He founded Deep Space Gallery and with co-owner Jenna Geiger co-curates monthly group and solo exhibitions for local, national, and international emerging artists. VanPelt has co-curated multiple art fair booths and juried exhibitions, including Personal Structures (2024) in Italy for the 60th Venice Biennale d’Arte, Create! (2024).
